Aurora starting hospital construction?

Anyone who has driven south of town on South Washington Street in the last couple of weeks has probably noticed that there appears to be the early stages of a construction project taking place on the piece of land where the proposed Aurora Hospital is to be built. The land, just south of the Cancer Center of North Dakota, has been cleared and there appears to be construction equipment and vehicles in the area.

Does this mean that, despite the Grand Forks city council’s decision to not give the proposed hospital a tax abatement, the hospital’s developers have already decided to go ahead with their plans anyway? I wouldn’t be surprised. I never believed that the loss of a tax abatement would derail plans to build a project of this scope. Even if the abatement had been fairly sizable, developers of a multi-million dollar project generally wouldn’t decide to forget about their plans just because an abatement fell through.

So, does this mean that the hospital is currently in its early stages of construction? I’m not sure, but I wouldn’t be surprised.

On an unrelated note, this is the 300th story posted on this blog. Cool!

"Anyways"? The word is plural? Since when? Aaargh! And this is the blog I always check first, for it's intelligent and newsworthy tidbits.

Sorry. Major pet peeve. Something about murdering "anyway" just ruins my day. :o)

anon: If that ruins your day, GET A LIFE!

Congrats on the 300th story GFG!

Shouldn't it bother you, anon, that anyway is one word? Oh my god! What were they thinking? It is clearly "any way" but "anyway," any ways you choose to look at it.

Younger generation.

So content to murder the language.

Is a small spelling mistake such a big deal on a blog? Wouldn't it be more interesting to talk about the actual post?

As far as bad spelling, bloggers didn't invent it. Lately, I have seen obvious spelling mistakes on the "ticker" and on headlines on CNN and the other cable news channels. Now that's pretty sad.

For that matter, the local media outlets aren't so great either. Spelling mistakes are quite common in the Herald. Also,WDAZ certainly has more than their fair share of pronunciation and grammar problems.

Agreed. And this has grown out of proportion, already.

I guess some folks just get tired of using words improperly; how 'anyway' got to be 'anyways' anyway is beyond me. Sort of like a generation of people who use the phrase "he goes" instead of "he said." And, definitely, the media has shown an increase in taking liberties with language. (Hmm...come to think of it, part of the same era, perhaps...)

Back to the main point, again: Congratulations on the 300th milestone, GFG; as the first anonymous poster said, this is one of the best blogs.

Back to the main post (yet again,) I haven't seen any great goings on in the Aurora neighbourhood. What you saw is about what it was a month or so ago. They tore out the baseball cage and leveled it out prior to any discussion of them building a hospital.

What's going on with the batting cages? I know the park district turned down taking them, since they didn't want to have to run them. Somewhat confusing, since the park district provides all of that other stuff. I remember about a year ago hearing the Big Dogz rip into the park district for not taking it over. The guy wanted to give the stuff to them, since he could get a tax writeoff. It would be nice if GF had some kind of park with minature golf, batting cages, etc.

Ditto anon's comment on the park district taking over the batting cages...
