Another sign of summer

The Town Square Farmer's Market returns for its 8th season this Saturday. The Market is held every Saturday (rain or shine) from 9 AM -2 AM until September 27. This Saturday, Penumbra will play from 10:30-1:30. Next Saturday will bring a free petting zoo for the kids. The Market is held in the Town Square at the intersection of Demers Avenue and South Third Street in downtown Grand Forks.

I saw this advertised 2 days ago, from one of my free newspapers I get each time I buy a mere pastry with my beverage...9am, tour of the Greenway, can't say who will lead the tour. Most likely, not the mayor. Is lying by omission illegal on the internet?

Oh, free Heralds 'til the end of June at Starbucks (smart move Herald, I'm inches from buying a subscription!)

I love the market. Those Polygamist that have the vegetable stand every summer sell the best rasberry jam I have ever had! And they are so nice too!

p.s. I apologize if they are not Polygamist, but they dress just like the ones I've seen on t.v., so I dont know what else to call them.

I believe the excellent farmers you are talking about are Hutterites.

An interesting group... gals wear the skirt/dress/bonnet attire while the guys can wear... snowmobile/nascar jackets???

Anonymous said...

what's wrong with that?

I've never seen any of them with "snowmobile/nascar" jackets as they all dress conservatively - (you probably don't like that word so replace it with "plain")

Just stating what I see when I'm out shopping over and over. Routinely, the guys are less conservatively dressed than the gals (but not in all cases).

I'm really excited about the Farmers Market! I couldn't make it today because of other commitments, but I am really excited to go next week.

Well, my girlfriend and I were on a walk last night and we came across this really pretty black cat. She's about 8-12 months old, very very friendly and already knows how to use a litter box. We found her on a busy street and took her in because we didn't want her to get hit by a car. We are also reluctant to bring her to the humane society, because unfortunately, they have to put most of them to sleep. Right now, she is temporarily with with a friend until we can find her a new home. If you or anyone you know would like to rescue this kitty, please call me as soon as possible.

Thanks,
Dion

Im just curious, Do the Hutterites also share their wives? They are communal and share everthying else. Serious question by the way, not making fun.

"Do the Hutterites also share their wives?"

No, they are monogamous.

Has anyone else noticed how NOT busy Denny's is? I've driven by a couple times and have seen only two or three cars in the lot at peak eating times.

Three of us from work ate there on Saturday the 21. A burger with 'spicy' fries and an ice tea was $8+ and the burger was thin & dried out and not very many fries. My wife just happened to eat at the neighboring Wendy's the same day. A better burger was less than $5. Guess where we go the next time?

(maybe Hooters will take it over. Their food is much better.)

For the most part, I don't think Denny's counts on locals other than the after-bar greasy burger bunch. If you're traveling through or visiting, you probably say to yourself, "it's Denny's how bad can it be?"

The Farmer's Market last weekend was a bit of a disappointment. I'm hoping that's just cause it was the first of the summer. There was no produce! :( That's why I went! A few interesting things and the band was decent so I'm glad I went, but I'm looking forward to this weekend. I hope the little petting zoo has a fair variety of little barn animals :)

Produce won't come into the market until Saturday, July 5th. That weekend there should be some fresh broccoli, berries, baby lettuces, etc. Until then you just have to make do with fresh ruhbarb, farm fresh eggs, flowers, asparagus and hothouse tomatoes. Even more will start to show up the weeks after that.

The petting zoo should have a baby pony, goat, sheep and llama with ducks and chicks.

229 Groove Collective is playing this weekend and next Saturday (July 5th ) Megan Johnson is going to be there; she sounds just like Janice Joplin!

Could the same thing happen that went on in Texas ? Or the Waco fire ? I believe it could ! So Hutterites and Mennonites beware of cops, sheriff, and highway patrol, they may bust down the walss and take your kids ! Call Kate Kenna ! greenglass4

I love how a post about something like the farmer's market can take so many interesting twists and turns. You guys crack me up!

The only trouble the Hutterites and Mennonites that I know might get into would be to get a speeding ticket. The Amish (Only about 40 miles away) don’t have to worry about any speeding tickets.

It's their puppy mills that will get them into trouble.
