Rydell's open house

This past Sunday afternoon, I attended the open house at the new Rydell's car dealership on South Washington. Don't ask me why they chose to hold the open house so long after the building was actually completed. Still, I enjoyed getting to see what the new Rydell's looks like.

All in all, it is a nice structure. I like the giant, curved roof that seems to tower over your head when you're inside the building (reminds me of a stadium) . My only problem with the building is the lack of signage on the outside. They must have spent millions on this building, yet apparently they couldn't spend the money it would take to put up a sign that says "Rydell" on the building. I'm not kidding...there is no sign other than a red neon one that hangs inside behind a window and is only visible in the dark (and even then it doesn't stand out).

My favorite part of the open house? The free food! Pulled pork sandwiches, chips, cookies, and beverages. Apparently, the great Chef NarDane (aka Dennis Narlock) prepared the food. Yes, there is actually a chef in Grand Forks who has come up with his own "celebrity chef" moniker...think what you will. Anyways, thanks to the Rydell's for the free food...now go put up a sign on the building!

I'm curious as to why they should have a sign on their building? They have a huge sign out front that lists them as Rydell Chevrolet (and all the other manufacturers), and there's no mistaking that the lot is 100% Rydell's. Why destroy the beauty of the building's aesthetics with a sign?

Well, if I had a business with a well known name in the community, I would personally want to put that name in a prominent spot on the building...but then that's just me. I don't see how a sign on the building would have to ruin aesthetics. If done properly, I would think a sign on the building could actually enhance the visual appeal.

ec99, what's wrong with Rydells? I've actually heard of people passing up the Fargo dealerships in favor of coming to shop at Rydells...that's what my cousin from Fargo did when she wanted a new car.

You shouldn't give business to Fargo! Bad, bad, bad!!!

I couple years ago my daughter asked me to go with her to look at cars. She wanted a Honda Accord so we went to Rydell's. She laready had the financing through the bank she worked for. The salesman told me he could not sell the car she wanted below the "Best Price" marked on it. Then the sales manager said "We don't think it's fair that someone with the money should get a car for less than someone without it" This communist drivvel from a guy who works for one of the most right-wing people in the city. We went to Fargo and got the exact same car for $4,000 less because they would bargain. "Best price" apparently refers to the dealer, not the customer.
