One for The Ralph
According to the Grand Forks Herald, country music stars Billy Currington, Jason Aldean, and Trace Adkins will have a concert at the Ralph Engelstad Arena on December 2.
With the Alerus Center's upcoming Cirque du Soleil and Black Eyed Peas concerts, it's good to see The Ralph get something like this on their schedule. I'm always curious if both arenas have bid on events like this and what made one get it over the other.
Update - 8/4/2006
Speaking of the local concert scene, The Dixie Chicks just canceled their upcoming Fargodome concert. I suppose I should feel bad for the Dome. This was supposed to be their big summer concert...

BTW, I'm no fan of country music so I'm not sure if this is a big concert or not. Anyone?
2 bucks says one of these acts cancels.
Be an optimist.
I've heard that Cirque du Soleil has been selling quite well. Let's hope that's true. I'm assuming it's not set up in a full-house format, but probably a half-house.
What's wrong with a "French circus"?
About the box - that's good, Dave. I just wish I could change the title to something other than red...
we got Bob Dylan coming to Fargo again, so take that!
(only kidding)
Weathergal, are you telling me you're willing to bet the annual profit of the Alerus Center on an act canceling at the Ralph?
Unless you've seen Cirque...well, you haven't seen Cirque. They're the most extraordinary athletes I've ever seen. Not to mention the lights, costumes and music they perform around.
Sounds like French bashing to me. Freedom Fries. Git er done!
By the way, the performers hail from all over the world, but they're based in CANADA.
"Freedom Fries. Git er done!"
HAHAHA! Mission Accomplished, indeed.
ohyeah! Le Cirque! Who's gonna have free tickets to win so us poverty stricken folk can get a chance to go? This act (though they have many "acts" has been on tv numerous times, and aside from the lights, the costumes, etc., they are stupendous acrobats, gymnasts, daredevils, dancers...all choreographed and fast--very fast moving. Beautiful, breathtaking, exciting. They draw big wherever they go is what I hear.
I'm sick of French bashing. Making fun of France seems to have become an "All-American" hobby in George Bush's America.
And good point, anonymous, this isn't a French circus...it is a Canadian circus.
Picking on France is just so easy, though.
They're like the person that wants wants to blend into
the background but knocks over the lamp and everyone
turns to stare.
and I have some French among the heintz 57 in my background :-)
Why does The Ralph do so few events besides hockey?
The Ralph usually has a decent concert once a year... They had Toby Keith in February. I'd imagine during the school year though there are few weekends when they don't already have something big going on to get something scheduled. Toby Keith was in a rare week with nothing else scheduled. How often does the Alerus Center have the problem of trying to find an unscheduled weekend?
Actually in all fairness the Alerus Center is usually fairly busy during the school year as well.
You just used The Alerus and busy in the same sentence.
That's not something you see everyday.
Ok, I looked at their schedule for last year after I made my initial comment. Maybe busy was the wrong word, but they had something scheduled every weekend, even if it wasn't something requiring a large venue.
