I hope the new theatre is a success. I spend the entire month of October and the Christmas/New Year week in GF every year, and I can't stand Carmike, so I don't get to see any new movies until I go home.

If they build it with stadium seating, I will happily go to movies in GF/EGF again. Stadium seating is the ONLY way to see a movie, in my opinion. The seats are built like La-Z-Boys, and the further back you sit in the theatre, the better the view gets!

I see an average of 2-3 movies a week, (my girlfriend is the projection manager at the Muvico 20-plex theatre near our house) and I could not imagine going that often to a theatre as bad as Carmike's.

I wish them the best of luck, and they can count me as a new customer if they build it right!

If it's within walking distance of downtown, I'll definitely go. Well, lower ticket prices would be nice, but I really don't care if they have digital or regular projectors.

I agree with Kelly....I am not a fan of carmike...love the stadium seat idea....if you build it they will come.

If the prices are under Carmike's, and they keep with the idea that one screen is always for indie films, I'll probably be going there a lot more often than I've gone to Carmike.

Movie theatres have never been sucessful in EGF, with the exception of the WW Theatre a few years ago, I think they charged 5 cents a movie and made their money on candy and popcorn. We called it "the Wobbly Wobbly" I think it was actually the Wongs Business. Any ideas or corrections. But it is a good fit with the food establishments and Cabelas. greenglass4.

I don't think I'd be willing to drive all the way to east grand just for a movie when the carmike 10 is only a mile away.

They would have to have a movie that I really wanted to see that carmike didn't have.

I also think putting a movie theater (which is a buissness that is usually busy only at night) into that mall is going to cruch the small buissness that are there. They needed a day time attraction to get people in the door.

what small businesses are left in that mall???? i think a movie theater is a great idea...

Have your business stay open a little later in the evening, maybe pick up some people who happen to be early for a movie (or coming out of an early showing), perhaps pick up some new customers who will start coming during the day...

If you live in GF you don't have to "drive all the way to East Grand...". What separates the two cities is a river. And there are BRIDGES to EGF. Come on over see us some time. We've got running water and everything.

I hope the theater does well. I don't have problems with Carmike but then I won't have to drive all the way over to Grand Forks. Sorry, couldn't resist that one. But living on the southend-it really is a drive.

I'm not very impressed so far with the plans for the new theater. It sounds like they'll just be showing more of the same boring movies that Carmike now plays. GF doesn't need another "family" movie theater (whatever that means) but one that shows "art" films and independent features. I think with the university in town they would get plenty of business. Furthermore, I could care less about the stadium seating. It would just be nice to have a theater that actually showed high-quality films and not generic hollywood crap.

Since Carmike has the milquetoast market cornered, I hope the EGF cinemas will have to bring in films that are somewhat more adult-themed, if not foreign and independent.

I'm almost positive the original plans for the theatre in EGF had included that they would be making sure to show independent/under the radar films on one screen at all times.

Many of the films that Carmike denies area movie-goers aren't that independent. I've seen Carmike pass on a lot of quality films that do well commercially. On rare occasions they may wait a week on a non-mainstream picture and run it if it's making out like a bandit, but that's the exception. Maybe a theater would do well to get a vote on films they're uncertain of. Patrons could check off those films they would be willing to see, and there could be a drawing from the ballots each week for free tickets. Maybe that's too progressive for Carmike.

As for location. Look at a map of GF/EGF area and realize how many people would have equal or less driving time to downtown EGF for a film. Not to mention that fact that people are already right there, every night, for the restaurants! Midco 10 seems forlornly displaced in comparison.

I live downtown and would DEFINITELY see films there. Before gas got so expensive I regularly drove to FARGO to see films. I love the Fargo Theatre there and have often thought the Empire could run independent films there but if the new EGF theatre might, that works too. In a town crying out for more theatre options the only way it could fail is to show the exact same films at a higher price. Right?

I live in Thief River Falls and I am VERY excited about the new theater!!! My husband and I go to movies all the time and this will be much closer for us! I can hardly wait until it opens. I have a feeling there will be a lot of people from TRF coming over. If you think Carmike is bad, check out our theater. UGH!
