Radio Shack to close one Grand Forks store

The Radio Shack in the Grand Cities Mall is closing. Radio Shack has been a longtime tenant in the mall. This closing, part of a nationwide closure of 480 Radio Shack stores, leaves Grand Forks with one Radio Shack in the Columbia Mall. I have to admit that I always thought it was a bit unusual that we had two Radio Shacks in a city the size of Grand Forks.

By the way, apparently the Fargo Forum hasn't heard that the South Forks Plaza was renamed the Grand Cities Mall years ago. One more thing they'll have to learn if they want to buy the Herald...

I was walking through the "dirt mall" (as the kids call it) and realized that on the way in, as well as the way out, the gent manning the Radio Shack was in the exact same position chilling and watching the tube.

I'm sorry, but that mall is a total disaster to keep open. Businesses barley stay alive there. If the rumor is true over at the Riverwalk, maybe those businesses can revive Grand Cities Mall. Until then, somehthing major needs to be done.

Now thats out of the way, sorry to see the Radio Shack closing down. I might add that they're both in bad locations, although the other one is in Columbia... but it's on the side where hardly anyone goes anymore (Old Target area). Let's hope that keeps up with business.

Or maybe the Forum is too busy reporting national news. You know, the news that the Herald reports a day or two after the Forum, and is relegated to The Second Front (of less import than the "real" front? You know, the section that is oftentimes the third section of the newspaper, right behind the one with the news of the large fish caught in Farmer Pickle's pond.)

Why must the Forum always refer to Grand Forks as either "The Forks" or "Grand Forks, ND"? In ways, I find the second one more irritating. Do most Forum readers really need help in figuring out just where this "Grand Forks" place is? I'm pretty sure that the Forum never feels the need to tack on the ", ND" when they mention Bismarck...so why GF?
