If you can't beat 'em, join 'em?

I haven't heard any of the other media around town mention this yet, but the General Manager of the currently under construction Canad Inns Destination Center hotel and waterpark has been named. A Mr. Jeff Jasperson will be filling this position. Not very newsworthy you say? Well, here's the interesting thing: Jasperson was previously the General Manager of the Seven Clans Casino-Hotel-Waterpark in Thief River Falls. The Seven Clans complex will be seeing heavy competition from the Canad Inns complex when that hotel and waterpark open next year. I remember the local media outlets talking with Jasperson in the past about how much of an impact the Canad Inns complex would have on his Seven Clans complex when it opens. Apparently, Canad Inns decided that if they are going to take some traffic away from Seven Clans, they might as well go all out and take their General Manager too. I would say it's a shrewd move on the part of Canad Inns. Few people must know the local hotel and waterpark businesses as well as Mr. Jasperson. Sounds like a good choice for Canad Inns and a step up for Mr. Jasperson.

On a related note, Canad Inns has been putting up some pictures of progress on the Grand Forks complex...check them out.

WDAZ basically read the news release last night. Hmm...the release is dated April 13. Looks like someone at WDAZ is a GFL reader.

I'm not sure if Seven Clans will actually be hurt by Canad's water park.

As I recall, when Jasperson appeared before the Grand Forks water park committee in 2003, he said he thought the competition would help Seven Clans.

In my story in the Herald dated April 23, 2003, I quoted him this way:

Asked why he is helping a rival with such information, which included some data that most businesses would consider proprietary, Jasperson said having two water parks in the region would expose more people to water recreation. "More people will be curious about the casino's water park, helping build up traffic," he said.

Hey nice link to the Canad onstruction, by the way. And, yes, WDAZ is now a fan. One of them said they saw the link on my blog. Ooh, secret weapon! Keep up the good work GFG.

I love seeing a "scoop" of mine show up in the Herald...and now WDAZ too! :)

When I think about it, you're right about Jasperson and the Seven Clans waterpark, Tu-Uyen...but it does tickle me to see the GF facility "steal" the manager of the TRF facility. Maybe he planned on jumping over to the Canad Inns and that's why he was willing to share info with them before? Who knows...

Well, at the time, the Canad project was still kinda iffy with all the controversy surrounding the water park. Throwing in one's lot with them probably wouldn't have been wise.

I happened to see the announcement a while back on the Canad Inns web site, I was a little surprised at the time that the Herald or WDAZ didn't have anything on it.
