BEST OF GF: Buffet

In the first installment of BEST OF GF, I asked you which coffee shop in town is "the best." I even included a little poll and, according to the current results, Caribou Coffee is winning with 21% of the vote. You can actually still vote in that poll if you haven't yet done so.

Now, time for the next BEST OF GF question. What is the best buffet in Grand Forks? Vote and share your opinions in the comments section.

BEST OF GF: Buffet
AALTO'S
Golden Corral
Great Wall

I hate buffets. People sneazing and coughing all over your food. Too many germs. Ick.

give me a break... a buffet is a good way to give people with differing tastes a chance to have their favorite kind of food. I found that Golden Corral had the best variety of any buffet I have been to. They have reasonable prices, and good service (even though some servers and workers lood a little scary)

I voted 'other' for Happy Joe's, Mike's Pizza, Pizza Hut, Overtime and all the other missed fatty places. Really, though, Mike's and Joe's are good if you're in the stuff-your-face-of-calories type of mood.

Golden Corral reminded me of "pigs at a trough" both figuratively and literally!

ok - I will give you that Local Boy...it really did feel like I was in a Corral...lots of elastic pants going on in that place. I went one time at 8:00 on a sunday morning. It was a lot more pleasant then when I wasn't being run over by the feeders.

Everybody knows buffets serve Soylant Green!

Better to eat at home. Just dropped in to talk (not eat) food at Panda and Great Wall was stale and not cooked ! In Hawaii they served dogs at many of the same places. Bark when you eat ! greenglass4.

I applaud these places. Bring 'em on!

They thin the heard.

I didn't like Golden Corral either. I really did feel like we were being herded through chutes and into corrals. The seating areas felt crowded, there were no booths to sit at (my preference), and the "waitress" kept pushing us to eat more. I never knew where to get in a line, the salads and chinese food had sat under the lights too long, and it was so busy I was scared of having my plate knocked over.
I think I prefer Royal Fork. Whenever my family gets together with relatives it's the most sensible place to go because everyone can get what they want, it has a more comfortable atmosphere, and the food is good.

just got back from vegas....the buffet at the MGM is pretty darn good....apparently it is possible to serve "real" food via a buffet....

When I go to a buffet, which is usually about once every two months, I always to go Panda. Try the mongolian bbq. It is AMAZING.

The Panda....yum. That Mongolian BBQ is dangerous...I always get a big plate of it before I hit the actual buffet...I like to think of it as a salad. Haha!

I've been to the Golden Corral once and the place was very busy. We went really early in the evening so it wasn't so bad during the first part of our meal, but it got crazy later on. I liked their food and was amazed by the variety. They really have many, many more options than the Royal Fork. Still, the Royal Fork is a good old standby...my family has been going there for years. The selection isn't anything to really brag about, but they do offer some good items (very good fried chicken). Also, I like the idea that the beverage is included (not so at the GC) and the Royal Fork always has some very good coupons. There is a "buy one meal, get $5 off the second meal" coupon out there right now...hard to beat.

BTW, with all this talk about buffets...no, I'm not a fatty. Actually, I could stand to put on a little weight. Guess I'll just have to hit the buffets more!

Rick and GFG - If you think the Panda Buffet is good for Mongolian BBQ, you really need to get to Khan's in the Twin Cities. I'd recommend the Richfield one near the Mall of America. I don't get there anywhere near often enough.

Dale can vouch for them also...

Dude, if you think that, you need to go to a REAL Mongolian BBQ. The Panda's is garbage in comparison.

I really miss the one that was over by Super One three or four years ago (worst location in town, but excellent food) and, as GJB points out, Khan's in MSP. Oh, and BD's Mongolian BBQ chain in Michigan, which is the best one I've ever been to.

Good Mongolian is the focus of the restaurant, not a pathetic effort to differentiate one Asian buffet from another.
