Capone's to reopen...

...in McVille.

Yep, apparently Capone's - the restaurant that couldn't make a go of it on Gateway Drive in Grand Forks - is taking over the "McVille Restaurant" location. My tipster says that "they won't have the staff and greeters in gangster attire all the time; only for holidays and special occasions."

Well, I hope they can make a go of it in McVille (pop. 470). They didn't seem to be able to in Grand Forks...

Thanks to my faithful tipster!

How do you suppose the residents in McVille will take to being called "D-bags" if they voice displeasure in their new restaurant?

From the wbsite, it looks like McVille seems stoked to have a new eatery coming in--although I'm confused about the building--does the town own it, or did Capone's buy it?

The town owns it, they just rent it out.

McVille is full of 90 year olds who want toast and 25 cent coffee

The previous renters, who were running the McVille restaurant the last two years, ran a great establishment with a nice menu and reasonable prices. They had a better reuben than you can find in Grand Forks County...

Why did they give up the ghost then? Not enough business?

My guess is there is not enough volume to support a building that size

I think it was the 80-100 hour weeks (they are a younger couple with school age children) with a small local labor pool.

McVille, and really the entire population of Nelson County is tiny! I've heard that the Post Office Cafe, which is a great place in Cooperstown, has been losing money for a long time and that's even in a bigger town, so I can't say I'm optimistic, but good for them anyway.

Cooperstown is in Griggs County. You have to remember that folks in rural areas don't think twice about driving 30-45 miles one way to hit a decent restaurant.

Well, that rules out Capone's.
