Milo Smith's new blog

WDAZ's Milo Smith has a new blog, Milo's Turf Tips. The blog is about "the quest for the perfect lawn." Good luck with the lawn and the blog, Milo!

Wonder why Forum Communications didn't make Milo use their AreaVoices blogging platform for his new blog?

This thread will go nowhere.
Let's talk about if people are going on summer vacations this year, or are they staying home like me because the price of energy?

Hey anon, not all posts are for you to spout off in.

What's Milo gonna do on his blog in the winter, give advice on how to use a snowblower?

You anonymouse posters deserve to stay home---at least until you change your attitude. Geez.

Is that you Nick? or is it someone else? Prove it's really Nick or should we replace the "N" with "Pr"

Dale, that's a good point, however, if that's the case, does it even deserve a mention here? It's not like Milo is going to be using the blog to add value to his newscasts. If Milo puts up a flickr page with pictures of last year's 4th of July barbecue, is GFL going to pimp that, too?

Let's raise the bar a wee bit for exposure.

Hey does anyone know what happen to Tammy Osborn at WDAZ. Just wondering havent seen her on all week and she is not listed on WDAZ site anymore.. Just wonder cause I though she was an talented and awesome news anchor...

I'm curious too... I have a lawn overcome by broadleaf beasts. Should I spray myself or hire a company... what's cheaper? (lawn care newbie)

Tami unfortunately left to be a reporter at WINK News in south Florida. James Degelder, the weekend sports anchor, will also be moving down there at the end of the month, as they are engaged. So that's what happened to Tami.

I'm going to miss Tami. She really became a professional and polished journalist during her time at WDAZ. It's too bad so many of "the good ones" eventually leave. I still miss Lacey...and her emo report and her popping up in places like the jail and the homeless shelter. Best of luck to Tami and James.

That little drawing of Milo is scary...

Milo was my backyard neighbor for years, and as I watch his videos, I can understand where his lawn problems are coming from. The grass in that neighborhood was from an awfully low grade sod laid out sometime in mid 1995 by the city of Grand Forks. That whole area was a drainage field at one time, so that place was a swamp during the spring.

My family had to replace our lawn twice over 5 years because of standing water.

I wish him the best of luck with his lawn, it looks like he has beat some of the recurring problems we had around this time of year with our plot already.

I just hope he isn't still mowing his lawn while wearing shorts with knee-high black socks!! Ha, ha!! ;)

For those of you looking for someone to help with lawn care... I highly recommend Jeff Moen (individual who does landscaping out of Reynolds). I had the worst yard and has a recommendation from local landscapers to scrape off all existing grass and lay sod. Jeff came in, we re-seeded and he fertilized with some secret formula over the summer. Huge difference! I don't have his number handy but I'm sure you can find him...

First up, Grand Forks Guy, thanks for the plug.

I'm a little confused by the person who chastised you for the mention by comparing this to a personal photo album. Yes, the blog is about my efforts to improve my lawn, but the goal is that others will learn some helpful information along the way. I've gotten a lot of good feedback so far.

I started the blog as a way to give out more information than we can fit into weekly reports on WDAZ News at 5 on Thursdays. People will also be able to go back and check older information that they may have missed.

Yes, we had some discussions at work about how to present the information online. Using the blog format seemed the simplest way, so that I could maintain it mostly by myself. Also, I don't think there's a written rule that a blog has to continue forever.

As for Kelly's claim, I've haven't worn knee-high socks with shorts since I played basketball in high school and they were white with maroon stripes (school colors: Go Bulldogs!). I have NEVER worn a pair of black socks (except for maybe ankle socks) with shorts in my life. I'm not the most fashionable guy in the world, but please! If it did happen (and I'm not admitting to it), it must have been a one-time thing!

One more thing: Aren't all caricatures a little scary?

I have to admit, Milo, I only saw you the one time. It was in the evening, and I think you were in between broadcasts, so I just assumed you were making a quick trim before heading back to work.

I meant it only as an offhand, tongue-in-cheek comment, and I ABSOLUTELY meant no offense. Besides, it was about 9 years ago anyway.

So, Mr. Smith, I sincerely apologize if I upset you, sir. I was just kidding, I meant nothing by it.

On a side note, it was fun to see my old house in the background of your video. It reminded me of being back home up there in ND, and the memories I have of that time. Thanks for posting it!

And, again, I'm sorry for upsetting you, sir.

Of course, the above comment was made by me. I forgot to sign the damn thing again!

Kelly, Not upset at all. I was trying to be funny. I'll have to try harder next time!

Oh, ok. Ha, ha!

Sometimes the sentiment doesn't quite shine through on these blogs, so I thought I had done something REALLY stupid.

That would be just my luck, I make an offhand remark, and in doing so, I tee off one of the most well-known journalists in the northern Red River Valley!

My roommate said, "Way to scrum with the press, dummy! Is there anything I should know, before they dig something up on you and rake you over the coals up there?" Ha, ha!

Anyway, keep up the good work on the blog, I look forward to seeing how you get that bare spot out of your grass.
