Campus Dakota wants to link to your blog. We've started adding student and community blogs to our RSS pages so people can easily see what everyone else is talking about. It's very similar to the "GF blog posts" box on the left side of Grand Forks Life.

Examples:
ND student blogs
ND college newspapers
ND student organizations
Grand Forks community blogs

If you want your blog listed, please email me.

Campus Dakota is owned and operated by college students in North and South Dakota.

Who are the fools running the Herald website? Seems like it is down a lot lately.

Anonymous said...

That would be Forum Communications Company. A lot of their sites are slow and/or down today. in-forum.com, duluth.com, areavoices.com

Their servers are always slow, but today they're half dead.

Six comments on a new open thread? Pathetic! ;)

I fear you've lost some of your more prolific blog readers, GFG. Not your fault, either; rather I'd venture to blame the inane comments of late by posters who are bored, immature, or both.

Just a thought; not meant to antagonize.

Anonymous said...

Hopefully, you've lost some of the more prolific blog commenters. I doubt the readers are going anywhere.

Anonymous said...

Yeah! I need my Herald. We need stuff to blog about. C'mon Herald come back online and give us some topics!

Grand Forks needs a doughnut shop. I miss the Donut Hole.

Anyone know if the main floor of the Opera House has been rented out? The rental sign is gone.

Who is your favorite SNL performer? Of all time? Mine is Horatio Sanz! "Hi, I'm Dennis DeYoung!"

Anonymous said...

Gilda Radner, without a doubt!

Anonymous said...

What GFKS really needs is ONE decent place to get a burger and a malt!

There used to be one---Topper's, I think it was called---out by the University.

Anonymous said...

"Who is your favorite SNL performer? Of all time?"

John Belushi. Hands down.

Followed by Aykroyd, Radner, Murray, Crystal and Hartman.

I second Kelly's nomination.

I was sitting in the parking lot at Columbia Mall, near McDonalds around 12:30 or 1pm today and this extremely loud siren went off! It sounded like one of those emergency sirens that were used in WWII, or the Cuban Missile crisis in order to alert everyone of a nuclear attack!! I could not tell where it was coming from, anyone here that????

Anonymous said...

I meant, hear that?

Anonymous said...

Yup, heard it (not so loudly near downtown) and thought a tornado was unlikely, so continued about my business. Was it just a drill?

My sister told me that Sun County is going to start daily Grand Forks - Las Vegas service. Does that make sense? Or is it just a weekly or monthly charter of some kind. I didn't think Sun Country operated scheduled service.

anon- it will be Allegiant Air...expect an announcement soon

Gerald Groenwold gets yet another deferred imposition of a sentence in a plea agreement...now tell me how rich and powerful aren't treated differently in the court system. It is time to hold judges accountable.

I want to say something nice about a city service. I've lived in town for about 25 years. Before that I lived in a couple of towns similar to GF's size, and two larger ones.

I've never had such reliable garbage pick-up as we have here. They're not noisy (have you ever been in, say, Chicago on pick-up day?) and they've never missed us. They're also neat. In other towns I've lived in, garbage pick-up day meant just that--I'd have to go out and pick up the garbage that flew out of the truck. Not here.

There are other city departments, too, that give really reliable service, such as the public library. The building could sure use an update, but the staffing is tremendous and the collection always has something I'm interested in reading.

Echo anon @5:45. Our garbage pick-up in Grand Forks is the best I've ever seen. Timely, quiet, thorough.

I actually used to live in a house on the north end where the garbage was supposed to be placed in a weird spot (my whole neighborhood had alley access but me), and I was skipped about twice a year--whenever the regular crew was on vacation, I suppose--which is totally understandable since the garbage truck almost always came down the alley instead of the street.

One quick phone call to a very courteous streets and sanitation department, and my garbage was always picked up the next day--no questions asked.

I've also called them to have miscellaneous extra stuff picked up. $10 and they take about anything and come right away.

The sirens were a test of the severe weather alerting system. With tornado season approaching the sirens will be tested the first Wednesday of each month at 1:00 p.m.

Cool thanks! That thing freaked me out! I havent lived in GF that long, and Im not from the mid-west, so I had no idea what it was!!

I agree, Gerald Groenwold now is guilty of spouse abuse, 2 days in jail and counseling ayt CVIC aka Rape and Abuse Center. What a joke he and Connie aka The Power Couple should resign from their positions and lay low ! Special deal made with County Com and Connie, old favors never die ! greenglass4

Anonymous said...

I agree with greenglass -
wow, that was hard to say!
But of course, he is wrong in one way...the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center is the Fargo counterpart to CVIC (Community Violence Intervention Center) and aren't affiliated.

I'd like to see a moratorium on those 5-billion candlepower LED signs. There are two new ones in the last month - in front of Dakota TV (which, actually, makes sense) and Alltel. They are an eyesore at best, but at night they are blinding.

So, that adds to Dairy Queen, BWW, and Applebees in the 32nd/Columbia area alone. Who is next, Taco Bell? This could get out of hand, if it hasn't already...

Anonymous said...

Matt - the city council put a moratorium on them just about one month ago...apparently, your wish is their command! There are tons of those - Paradiso, Buffalo Wild Wings, plus the ones you mentioned. How about the most distracting ones in the city, at the REA?
BTW - the one at Dakota is pretty new, but the one at Alltell has been there for at least 5-6 months

Anonymous said...

Actually the city council did not place a moratorium on these signs. There was no evidence these signs contributed to any traffic crashes in the city so the council decided not to create a solution for a problem that didn't exsist.

Anonymous said...

So the council was thoughtful enough to create zoning that restricted tall signs on 32nd Ave and Columbia Roads, but allows these monstrosities? Doesn't make any sense to me.

Anonymous said...

Where is the proof they are monstrosities? Obviously from past practice, i.e. restricting tall signs on 32nd Ave, the council would have restricted LED signs as well if there was proof they are a problem.

Matt BK said...

Where is the proof that tall signs are a problem?

Personally, I think both tall signs and flashy ones just make GFK look more and more like a strip...

Still Fighting It said...

Anon at 5:55 -

The Alltel sign is way too bright at night - so is the one at the Ralph. That's the main issue.

Tackiness is another, but that's subjective. I'd just rather not see every retailer and restaurant have a big bright sign in front. Apparently enough people agree that it's been stopped.

It makes sense for event centers to have them, but there should be a limit for safety's sake (or at least a friggin' dimmer) or for aesthetic purposes.

So... Anyone want to talk about the Iraq war? hahaha. I'm guessing not, but you should pick up today's edition of the Dakota Student. They're featuring a roundtable discussion on the war and although I'm against the war, the article for staying in the war is actually very compelling.

The DS website isn't updated to today's edition yet, but if you can't find a hard copy, the website should be updated sometime soon.

Anonymous said...

Do you want to discuss it in English or Arabic?

Is Mack (next Mayor of GF) a Warmonger ? Ed thinks so of Sen MaCain ! If Mack becomes Mayor will we declare war on Grafton ? Or Minto, or EGF, or Fisher ? Perception is sometimes reality, says Tran ! greenglass4.

Hey Gary!

It's Mac, not "Mack"!

Allegiant will never fly into here, we are way to close to Fargo and they have been dropping flights lately. If they do I will be very amazed. Also Sun Country is a scheduled airline who just cut some planes and a bunch of pilots.
