New poll: Another term for Brown?

Time for a new poll question: "Would you support Michael Brown for a third term as GF mayor?" I'll be interested to see how this vote turns out and to read what you have to say about the upcoming mayoral race.

Well done, anon.

I think Brown has done alright. During his tenure GF has certianly moved into a strong economic position. The only thing that concerns me is that our expansion is heavily dependent on the Canadian dollar. Too much too fast? We'll see.

But you can't much argue with results as they stand. He's been a good fit for the circumstances.

Cast my vote for Mayor Brown. He's personalable, knowledgeable, and a good ambassador for Grand Forks.

Brown deserves to be re-elected. In terms of leadership he is the best mayor in ND.

I think he's done a great job. I'm sooooo glad Pat Owens isn't here.

Ditto on that. You're doing a heckuva of job, Brownie!

I would suppot him again because he has done a great job from what I've seen.

The only stipulation I have with supporting him is that the North side of Grand Forks has become an almost blighted area.

IMHO, there needs to be a moratorium placed on new developments south of 32nd Ave S.

The last time I visited GF, the first thing I noticed driving down Gateway was all of the buildings for sale or for lease. Of course the widespread housing crisis has alot to do with this, but I can't imagine a well diversified GF without more Northern developments. It just seems ignorant (which might be a strong word, but I apologize in advance) to allow further development into undeveloped areas south of 32nd St without considering the current state of North Grand Forks.

There (literally) are 20+ buildings that are for sale or lease )or rent), and I definitely think that those spaces need to be filled before any further new building takes place.

I also think the role of Mayor allows you the opportunity to choose (or push) where you want development to take place.

The Brownstones and Current apartments in Downtown GF are a perfect example of what Grand Forks needs to do to allow an urban feel while also allowing residents of those areas many options in the way of shopping and dining options.

These developments have been in desperate need for years and years (since I actually lived in GF, and even before that).

They have been very well welcomed and on this basis it should be a reminder that if a city is to retain an urban center, you have to entice developers to build. I have no idea what sort of tax breaks these developments are under, but I would suggest increasing this sort of tax-breaking/planning/building to (or exclusively to) the downtown area since it helps the merchants in this area stay in business (because of increased traffic).

32nd Ave South instead of 32nd St, sorry, typo.

BTW, I love what you're doing with this blog, and as a fairly recent transplant from GF (now living in Fargo) I think what you're doing is fantastic.

I read Biz Buzz and GFL almost daily - so keep up the good work. Join forces if you can - the result could only be positive.

Brown is nothing but a figurehead for council. He does a great job being a figurehead and being the public face for Grand Forks but there is nobody actually doing the job as Mayor

WMZ, how do you do the things you are talking about without turning the city into a socialist 'state' where the government and not market influences make the decisions?

Just curious.

WMZ - I was mainly talking about any moratorium on development so of 32nd Ave.

My opinion: Mack will announce he is running for Mayor Thursday ! He was seen out collecting signatures before the Monday night Council meeting. During the meeting he threw the North End and Ward 2 residents under the bus, so he could "flip-flop" on Riverside Pool Issue, so now he "cares for" the whole city. Stay tuned. greenglass4.

"I have no idea what sort of tax breaks these developments are under .."

Doesn't Mayor Brown own part (or all?) of these new buildings? And some other council members have invested interests?

He owns one. (1)

Mac is too ambitious. First mayor, then legislator, then govenor, then senetor....hmmm.

Mac is going places and I think it is time for Brown to go. The guy obviously doesn't have time to govern the city like he should because of his job.

I sure whis we could get Louie Murray ( RIP) he was an outstanding Mayor.

I think he was more of EGF though. I see the Bridge in East Grand Forks is named after him, near the "Point Bridge"- that say's somthing. =-)
