Ponderosa to close
Apparently employees at the Grand Forks Ponderosa, located on South Washington Street in front of the Grand Cities Mall, have been told that the restaurant will be closing its doors for good in the next few days.
Pondorosa rules the employees rule and its a fun place to eat people suck. and good luck going to eat at a buffet in town for 6.00, hell good luck going to arbys for 6.00
WOOHOO finally that place is going AWAY! Just the other day I was walking by it and was wondering when they were going to finally close. They have NEVER been a very clean place. Only cleaned it when the inspector came around. GOOD RIDDANCE!
ponderosa was the best reatrsunt ever. i can't believe it's closing. how sad. the service and the food was always great. i wonder what will go there now
anon - pretty sure that was sarcasm when they said an auto parts store. Ponderosa was mediocre at best. I think with the new slew of competition with Golden Corral and Texas Roadhouse, they just kind of weren't on anybody's radar. The location isn't that great, and the place was more than a little outdated and kind of nasty feeling in the buffet line.
I'm from Winnipeg and ours closed up about 10 years ago. We usually tried it when ever we were in Grand Forks for a quick lunch. My kids loved the buffet.

Hmm this doesn't surprise me. I went there last month for the first time in a few years and remembered why it had been that long since I'd been there
ReplyDeletetwo weeks ago I said "honey we should try Bonanza again...maybe it doesnt suck anymore" she said "Are you #$*^@ crazy?"
ReplyDeleteEven after that glowing review from our own dining expert, Marilyn Hagerty (MH), a few months back? Impossible!
ReplyDeleteThe Ponderosa in Fargo just closed as well. Maybe the chain is closing up some of the restaurants?
ReplyDeleteIt's no wonder. They have to have the worst buffet--it doesn't even feel sanitary.
ReplyDeleteMH should learn how to write people's first names.
ReplyDeletePonderosa is one of, if not the, worst buffets in town. I wonder what might go into that location???

ReplyDeleteMore parking?
Starbucks already bought the building.
ReplyDeleteNope, auto parts store / cell phone shop. Can't ever seem to have enough of those (apparently.)
ReplyDeleteI'll miss the quasi-meat balls and awesome chicken wings on the line. Didn't like much else, but those two items were great.
a combination starbucks/cellphone humungo kiosk....with autoparts in the back...
ReplyDeleteor Shangri La can re-open with a more Western feel?
a lot of empty buildings around town folks...

ReplyDeleteTen years to the day from when this news broke, something caused the Sonic under construction to blow down at this very location.
