My Pet Peeve: people who don't use turn signals
This isn't the country, folks. Nor is it Thompson, Manvel, Drayton, or any number of other small towns where using your turn signal might not be that important. This is Grand Forks and we have a fair amount of traffic on our streets. How hard is it to use your turn signal anyways? I'm not sure if this problem is worse here than in other places or not, but it's still out of hand. I'm sick of waiting for cars only to find that they are turning but just don't think it's worth their effort to put their turn signal on. It's a common courtesy folks and it only makes sense when driving in a town that has traffic. Start signaling!

I believe turn signals are an optional feature on cars sold in North Dakota. Ditto what ec99 said about lousy drivers and everything else!

You said "won't control" and not "can't control" so I assume you're giving some credit to those whose kids are being difficult.
The lack of diversity in everything in GF, especially the restaurants. I wish we had an Einstein Bros. or Panera Bread or something other burgers and tacos for fast food options.
ReplyDeleteLynsey, I laughed a little when you mentioned diversity in food and then named two national chains. Chains, IMO, are the antithesis of diversity; not that I don't like to frequent them, I just thought it was funny.

ReplyDeleteWhat really bugs me is the perpetual stench that emmanates from several places in and around Grand Forks, like the Sewage treatment plant and the 'lagoons'. YUCK!! Why can't city council spend some $ to upgrade the Sewage treatment facility so it doesn't stink to high h*ll all the way up and down Hwy 2? This is the 21st Century!!! Other cities don't smell so bad all the time! This is an important quality-of-life issue...why is no one addressing it????

ReplyDeleteHas anyone noticed the 'Big Brother is watching' cameras that are on intersections along 32nd??
ReplyDeleteThey must have been installed recently. From Happy Harrys to the Target/Kohls there are new cameras installed on all the lightposts. Are they for ticketing purposes or traffic counting. They are pretty heavy duty.
Are they red light cams or traffic signal cams? The traffic ones look like this:

If it's the traffic ones, they merely signal the presence of a vehicle in the intersection. It's all for the timing of red lights. They're usually pointed across an intersection to the "front of the line" across the way.
I'm curious to know which cameras you are seeing.
they are only for traffic monitoring purposes. They have been installed on all of the new light signals for the last 5 years and are being retrofit on several other intersections. They help in the motion sensing, I guess...absolutely not for ticketing red light infractions.

I notice people in GF truning right on red lights and stop signs don't bother stopping anymore.

ReplyDeleteThere was a time when it was more expensive to fill up in small towns surrounding the city; that often isn't the case any longer.
The fact that people expect to be treated as kings and queens by clerks in stores. This used to be an acceptable request when the clerk was the owner of the store, but now most clerks are being treated like crap and getting paid that way, too. Cut them a little slack now and then. They put up with so much of your crap. Seriously, the way people treat store clerks now is astonishing. You wouldn't treat someone on the street that way, you'd get told where to go! Remember the Golden Rule, people. These people are just trying to make some money.

ReplyDeleteSince moving here 5 months ago...my biggest pet peeve is people who can't grasp the concept of stop signs. Apparently some feel these are merely a friendly suggestion. On weekends we avoid 6th (by the Ralph) as we have had so many people just blow through stop signs or who don't stop when leaving a parking lot and almost hit us. Ive never feared driving like I fear it here!
ReplyDeleteNow that spring has finally sprung, my pet peeve is that there are absolutely NO lines left on the streets around town. It's getting unsafe in a lot of areas where traffic can't tell where to stop or where the lanes are. Is NDdot planning on re-painting the lines anytime soon i.e 2008?
