New gallery opens downtown

Apparently, there is a new art gallery in downtown Grand Forks. Read about the Third Street Gallery in Friday's Dakota Student. It sounds like a pretty small space to me, but it is nice to see more places opening up downtown. Too bad we don't have a big gallery down there. I have heard talk of putting some sort of gallery on the first floor of the St. John's Block. That would potentially be a much larger gallery. Guess we'll have to see what the new owners of that building have planned.

Good news for GF. There is a lot of good art in GF that needs the exposure.

There is a lot of good stuff out there, and a lot of artists who need to come out of the wood work...(including myself, but who knows if I'm any good or not...) ;)

What kind of art do you do, Amanda? I consider myself to be a rather "creative" individual. Nice to see the art community expanding in Grand Forks.

I'm a cartoonist, mostly. I went to school and got a degree in studio art, but I was fooling myself thinking I was a studio artist. I have some stuff on my blog if you click on my "amanda the great" name. I'm kind of more like, "Amanda the Just-sort-of-okay". ;)

Cool work, Amanda! I like the one about people using your driveway as a garbage can. Happens a bunch in my neighborhood too...

I just like to complain about the neighbors...nice, huh? ;) Anyway, I enjoy reading your blog, and the comments it garners. Keep up the good work!

Actually, the first exhibit is enititled "Take That!" and features prints by UND faculty member Kim Fink. Upcoming exhibits will feature "organic sculpture" and "mixed media and fibers". I'll have to check this place out soon. Grand opening is tomorrow. Read more about it in the Dakota Student article.

I'm going to have to check out the gallery soon. Somehow, I just assumed that it was small-scale. Great to see any type of gallery opening up down there!

On the city council meeting tonight, council president Hal Gershamn (Happy Harry's owner and a real promotor of the downtown area) mentioned the fact that there are two new galleries opening up downtown. I assume the "Third Street Gallery" is one of them. The other one must be the gallery that is supposedly going to be coming to the first floor of the St. John's Block building (the tall building at the corner of DeMers Avenue and 3rd Street...right next to Amazing Grains). It's great to see things starting to pick up downtown!

I happened across your blog when I was researching and am glad to hear you are spreading the word about the arts in Grand Forks. Third Street Gallery is a nonprofit arts organization created by artists for artists to provide exhibits and opportunities for regional and local artists. We hope that you will stop down to check out the gallery. You can check out the upcoming public events and exhibitions on our website. Thanks for being a supporter of the arts.
