A "Beacon of Hospitality"

For those of you who are not aware, when the Canad Inns hotel tower in Grand Forks is completed, a large "beacon of hospitality" - a bright revolving spotlight - will be installed on the top of the building. Read about the efforts that the Brandon, Manitoba city council have undertaken to dim a Canad Inn spotlight in that city. I would love to see some more normal white searchlights similar to those on The Ralph...I don't want "a creepy Batsignal-like beacon illuminating the Prairie night".

Is it high enough that aircraft might run into it? Who knows, maybe the FAA is in on the action. :-)

I think that a red light like that might be kind of creepy, but I'd rather see a photo of it first.

Oh, and thanks again for the information on the Stadter Center. The info was quite interesting to my girlfriend. :-)

Hey, how can we bribe you to add photos to the blog? ;)

drunk....I don't have a digital camera so it's a bit hard to add photos pertaining to my posts. :(

Ok, not only do I not have a digital camera, but, tragically, I don't even have a cell phone. I know...I must be the last person in town without a cell phone. It isn't that I wouldn't like to have one, it's just that I don't really spend much time on the phone. Oh well.

About the beacon...
Yes, the red light is meant to show of the hotel. The company wants to draw people to their hotel so...what better way to do so than with a big red light spinning around in the darkness? I guess I shouldn't make judgements about the light until I see it or understand what it will be like. It would be interesting to hear from someone from Brandon, Manitoba about what the light on the Canad Inn there looks like. It could actually be kinda cool. Guess we'll find out in about a year, huh?

Oh man, we need to set you up a "Get Grand Forks Guy a digtal camera" fund or something. Any of the Kodak Easyshare cameras are decent, and usually around $150-$200.

Cell phones are fairly useless. I only have one because work requires it. Otherwise it sits in my backpack, turned off. :)

Haha! I really should invest in a digital camera one of these days. My parents have the old film kind. It was very high quality when they purchased it back in the early 1980s for hundreds of dollars. I just wonder how much longer we'll even be able to get film for it.
